1.  Why didn’t Grandmother want to keep Tutu ?

Ans. Grandmother didn’t want to keep Tutu because they had many pets at home at that time. They already had goat, several white mice, and a small tortoise.


2.  Why did Grandmother change her mind about keeping Tutu?

Ans. She always wanted a little girl in the house. When she came to know that Tutu is little girl monkey, she changed her mind.


3.  Tutu would climb onto his shoulder and stay there,  playing with his hair and moustache. a. Whose shoulder would Tutu climb onto? b. When would Tutu do this?

Ans. a. Major Malik’s shoulder

         b. When Major Malik failed to shake hands with Tutu before he could enter the drawing room.


4. How was Tutu carried in the train?

Ans. Tutu was carried inside a large black travelling bag to prevent her from moving about on the train.


5.  Why did the ticket collector want a ticket for Tutu?

Ans. The ticket collector took Tutu as dog. So, he wanted a ticket for Tutu.


6. What other pet was Grandfather carrying with him on the train?

Ans. He was carrying a small tortoise on the train.

 

B. Answer in Detail

1. How does the speaker describe Tutu?

Ans. The street entertainer had three monkeys. Tutu was the smallest, but most mischievous. She was tied up most of the time. The little monkey looked so miserable with a collar and a chain that Grandfather though she would be much happier in our home.


2. Why was Aunt Ruby shocked?

Ans. When Aunt Ruby saw Tutu was trying her petticoats, she was shocked. She could see a white bundle, with no face, jumping up and down on the bed. She was not even informed about Tutu’s arrival at home.


3. Tutu does have fleas

Ans. a The speaker said to the Uncle Benji

b. When Uncle Benji complained that his hair brush was missing.


4. What were the advantages of the way Tutu was carried in the train?

Ans. Grandfather and the Ticket collector were arguing about Tutu’s ticket-fare. Grandfather tried to argue that young money was not the same as a dog or a cat. But all of it was useless in the end. Grandfather had to pay five rupees as her fare.


6. “Then he gave Grandfather a triumphant look.” Who gave Grandfather a triumphant look and why?

Ans. The Ticket collector gave Grandfather a triumphant look because he knew that Grandfather was right.
